Rather than Pharmacists dispensing tablets into the traditional plastic jar, they dispense tablets into a blister pack which then has a perforated label applied to close the blisters.
What is unique is that every label on every blister clearly shows precisely when the patient needs to take the medicine.
At the allotted time the patient removes the appropriate label, and takes his medicine. Once the Patient has taken his medicine, the label is missing indicating to him (or others ) that the medicine was taken.
The advantage to any pharmacy chain would be vastly improved customer service by providing their customers medicaments in a preferred format, increasing the likelihood of repeat business especially from the aging population.
The cost of the package is similar or perhaps less than an existing package and the speed of dispense could be as fast as or even faster than present with a degree of automation.
There will be savings in "reduction of count error" and there is also opportunity for tighter control between the prescribed drug and the actual dispensed drug.
A further advantage would be to limit the potential liability due to patients accidentally overdosing or under dosing by taking too many or too few medicaments due to inattention or “brain fade”. |
